作者簡介：
林孝庭博士，1971年出生於台灣台北市，國立臺灣大學政治學系學士，國立政治大學外交研究所碩士，英國牛津大學東方學部博士，美國加州大學柏克萊分校東亞研究所博士後研究員，美國舊金山大學環太平洋研究中心傑出訪問學者，於2008年獲選為英國皇家亞洲學會院士。自2007年起獲聘為美國史丹佛大學胡佛研究所研究員，2010年起擔任胡佛檔案館東亞館藏部主任。其研究領域為近代中國政治、外交、軍事、邊疆與少數民族問題、中英外交史、冷戰時期美、中、台三邊政治、外交與軍事關係等。曾參與本所蔣介石研究群活動，發表演講、參與國際學術研討，並發表論文於本所出版之《蔣介石與現代中國的形塑》。
